LINCOLN – Gary D. Wooten of Wilber was elected as the commander of the Nebraska American Legion during the 101st Annual Convention held June 21 to 23, in Kearney.

Wooten is eligible for The American Legion through his service in the U.S. Air Force from 1969 to 1973. He has been a member of The American Legion and Post 101 in Wilber for 13 years. He has served as District 11 vice-commander, District 11 commander, Area C vice-commander, Department sergeant-at-arms and senior vice commander.

Other state officers elected and installed were: Larry Mach of Weston, senior vice commander; Daryl Harrison of Thurston, Area A vice commander; Boyd Yochum of Ashland, Area B vice commander; Bonnie Brewer of Elmwood, Area C vice commander; and Dennis Kennedy of Culbertson, Area D vice commander.
