Unified on the gridiron

Ashland-Greenwood’s Harley Fass eludes an Auburn defender during the Unified Flag Football Game held Friday night at Ashland’s Memorial Stadium. Auburn outlasted the Bluejays 42-36. Later, the high school teams battled it out on the same gridiron with much different results (see Page 9). Each student on the Ashland-Greenwood and Auburn unified teams were paired with a student or staff member to assist them.

After the unified game, players, their family and friends, and staff members from both schools were treated to a cookout. The event was supported by Calvin’s Legacy Foundation, a local organization that enriches the lives of special needs individuals in the community in honor of Calvin Dean Curtis. Special Olympics also lent its support to the event. (Staff Photo by Suzi Nelson)
