OPEN FIELD TACKLE: Caleb McGill of Wahoo is tackled on a kickoff return in the fourth quarter by Ashland-Greenwood's Luke Craft.

     ASHLAND – The Wahoo Warriors and Ashland-Greenwood Bluejays locked up in an epic battle Friday night in Ashland in the season opener for both football teams.

     In a game that featured 87 points, more than 800 yards, and an overtime ended after nearly 3 hours and 27 minutes when a missed field goal by AGHS senior Ben Stille sent Warrior players, coaches and fans into a frenzy.

     The 45-42 overtime win over the top-ranked Bluejays allowed the Warriors to start the season with a victory for the first time since 2013.

     Junior quarterback Josh Abbott passed for 214 yards and three touchdowns and rushed for 87 more against AGHS.  Junior kicker Blake Kaiser was clutch the entire night splitting the uprights four times including a 29-yarder with seven seconds left that sent the game into overtime.

     He then hit what proved to be the game-winner in overtime from 27 yards out.
