FREMONT – The “dark” team got a team-high 23 points from Bishop Neumann graduate Kobey Simons on Saturday night in Fremont in the 13th annual Warrior Basketball Classic on June 1 at Midland University.

Simons’ 23 points sparked the “dark” team to a 105-91 victory in front of 900 fans in Fremont.

Simons poured in 10 points in the opening six minutes of the game, keeping the “dark” team in the game.

In fact, the “dark” team led 37-27 with 8:08 remaining in the first half before a driving lay-up by Wahoo alum Winston Cook cut the lead to single digits.

It was the first of six straight points for Cook who along with Archbishop Bergan graduate Grant Frickenstein kept the “white” team within striking distance.

The “dark” team led 52-49 at the half.

A 3-pointer by Frickenstein allowed the North team to take a 57-52 lead one minute into the second half.

A lay-up from Cook and a jumper from Bishop Neumann alum Trey Ahrens pushed the “white” team out in front 61-57.

They enjoyed the lead until another made 3-pointer from Simons gave the “dark” a 64-63 advantage.

The 3-pointer sparked a 10-2 run for the “dark” team and they never trailed again on their way to the 12-point win.

In addition to his 23 points, Simons added 11 rebounds and four steals while garnering MVP honors.

Cook finished with 13 points and added six rebounds in 23 minutes.

Ahrens finished with four points, three rebounds and two assists in 18 minutes of action.
