PLATTSMOUTH – The Wahoo State Bank Senior Legion Baseball team opened the 2019 season with a tournament in Plattsmouth over the Memorial Holiday Weekend.

The team opened the tournament with a 9-1 win over Sutton on Friday night.

The Reds scored two runs in the first inning and took advantage of four Sutton errors.

Nick Oden came through with two hits and drove in two runs to power the offense.

Logan Brabec added two hits and teammate Collin Morrissey and Trey Ahrens each drove in runs for the Reds.

The nine runs were more than enough for starter Nolan Sabatka who worked six innings to earn the win. Sabatka allowed just two hits and one run and struck out six opposing hitters.

The Reds returned to action on Saturday for a pair of games against D.J’S Dugout and Lee’s Summit Missouri.

The Reds were defeated by D.J.’s Dugout 10-5. D.J.’s scored seven of their 10 runs in the fifth and sixth innings to pull away for the win.

The Reds got as close as 6-5 in the top of the sixth inning, but D.J.’s put the game away with four runs in the sixth.

Morrissey and Karson Hesser each finished with two hits and Oden drove in a pair of runs.

Jarrett Kmiecik and Ahrens split time on the mound and allowed a total of 10 runs on eight base hits.

The Reds rebounded with an 8-4 win over Lee’s Summit Missouri later on Saturday.

The game was tied at three after seven innings and the Reds needed four runs in the top of the ninth to finally put away their opponent from Missouri.

Kmiecik and Hesser combined for six hits, four runs scored and five RBI.

Hesser also did work on the mound working seven innings, but took the no-decision despite pitching a solid game.

He allowed just three runs and six hits while striking out five over his seven innings of work.

The Reds finished the tournament with a 7-5 win over McCook.

The Reds led 7-2 going into the bottom of the sixth inning when McCook rallied for three runs to get within two runs, but the Reds were able to hang on.

Brabec and Oden each came through with pair of knocks and Morrissey drew four walks and scored a pair of runs.

Trevin Luben earned the win on the mound for the Reds.
