UP FAKE:  Wahoo senior Kyla Swanson looks to score in the lane against Syracuse during the Warriors 54-39 home win on Jan. 4.

WAHOO – The number-one ranked Wahoo girls basketball team improved to 11-0 on the year with a pair of home wins over Syracuse and Crete at Wahoo High School.

The week started with a Friday night win over the Syracuse Rockets 54-39.

Wahoo forced seven first quarter turnovers and led the Rockets 16-5 after eight minutes.

Syracuse outscored the home team 14-12 in the second quarter, but Wahoo was able to take a 28-19 lead into the halftime locker room.

Three-pointers by junior Hallie Reeves, senior Elly Larson, junior Kendal Brigham and sophomore Elle Glock in the third quarter allowed the home team some breathing room.

Wahoo was limited to just seven fourth quarter points, but Wahoo was still able to record the 15-point win.

We played really well at times tonight,” said Wahoo Coach Linda Walker. “Syracuse has a nice team and I am sure we will see them again.”

Reeves led Wahoo with 15 points and four assists.

Glock added 12 more and senior Kyla Swanson answered the bell with 11.

On Saturday, the Warriors were able to hold on for a 54-51 victory over the Crete Cardinals at Wahoo High School.

Crete led Wahoo 30-24 at the half.

Wahoo turned up the defensive pressure in the second half and were able to get a number of baskets in transition.

Wahoo outscored Crete 16-4 in the third quarter and took a 40-34 lead into the final eight minutes.

A 3-pointer by Glock, a basket from Swanson and a key lay-up from Reeves helped the home team hold off the Cardinals.

“We worked hard to get this victory today,” Walker said. “We dug deep at half and came out strong in the second half.”

Reeves scored 17 points and Brigham added 15 more.

Swanson led Wahoo with five rebounds and six assists.
