FORT CALHOUN – The Wahoo Warrior track and field teams turned in solid performances in cool and windy conditions at the Class B-1 District Meet held at Fort Calhoun High School on May 9.
The girls team finished runner-up at the district meet and is sending eight athletes to the Nebraska Track and Field Championships on May 17-18 at Omaha Burke High School.
Wahoo scored 107 team points in Fort Calhoun.
Five of the Warrior qualifiers came from the six field event competitions.
On May 8, Wahoo senior Kylee Edmonds punched her ticket to the state meet in the discus after finishing second in the event with a height of 8-6.
Sophomore high jumper Kharissa Eddie will make her first appearance at the state track meet after clearing 4-11 to earn a silver medal at the district meet.
Sophomore Kelsie Sears will be competing in her first ever state meet after finishing third in the long jump in Fort Calhoun with a leap of 15-7.25.
Senior Mattie Pfeiffer will be competing in her first ever state meet after qualifying in the discus event with her second place performance of 102-6.
Sophomore Toni Greenfield captured the district gold medal in the triple jump, winning the event and qualifying for the state meet with a jump of 35-2.75.
In addition to qualifying in the pole vault, Edmonds also qualified for the 100 and 200-meter dash on the track.
Edmonds finished runner-up in the 100-meter dash (12.80) and added a third-place finish in the 200-meter dash (26.86).
Junior Kendal Brigham will be competing in three events in Omaha. She finished third in the 400-meter dash (63.29) and finished with a silver medal in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:29.01.
She will also compete with senior Jaci Schnakenberg, sophomore Lauren Kavan and junior Zoe Christenson in the 3200-meter relay. The quartet finished second Fort Calhoun with a time of 10:29.52.
In addition to competing on the relay team, Christenson will also compete in the mile run at the state meet after finishing with the silver medal in the 1600-meter run (5:40.33).
The Wahoo boys team scored 46 team points at the district meet and will be sending four athletes to Omaha for the state meet.
All four qualifiers came in the field events.
Freshman Michael Robinson will be making his debut at the state meet after qualifying in the pole vault. Robinson finished third at the district meet with a season-best vault of 10-8.
Senior Austin Schneider will be making his second straight appearance at the state meet in the long jump after finishing runner-up in the event at Fort Calhoun. Schneider jumped 21-8 at the district meet.
Junior Brandon Swahn came through with a career best effort in the shot put to win the event with a heave of 51-1.
Junior Luke Partridge qualified for the state meet in the discus and will be competing at the state meet for the second straight year in the event.
Partridge finished second at the district meet with a throw of 153-7.
