FIRTH – The Waverly boys and girls soccer teams each suffered losses in the opening round of the Eastern Midlands Conference Tournament last week.

The boys team was downed in shootout fashion against the Elkhorn Antlers on April 23.

Both teams scored goals in the second half and after a scoreless overtime the Antlers were able to defeat the Vikings 3-1 in shootout fashion. The loss to the Antlers dropped Waverly’s record to

7-6 on the year.

The boys team will open Class B district tournament play against Lincoln Pius X (3-10) at Norris High School on May 2.

The girls team was shutout for the second time this season by the Blair Bears.

The Vikings were beat 2-0 by the Bears in conference tournament play, dropping their season record to 6-7 on the year.

The Vikings played Norris (6-7) on April 30 in district tournament play at Conestoga High School.
