NEBRASKA CITY – The Waverly Viking basketball teams each earned victories on the road against conference foe Nebraska City on Saturday.

The Lady Vikes earned their first win of the season, a 55-31 decision over the Pioneers

Waverly held the Pioneers to just nine first half points and led 23-9 after 16 minutes.

While the defense dominated the first half, it was the Lady Vike offense which led the way in the second half. The Vikings scored 32 points over the final 16 minutes.

Ten different players scored for Waverly and they were led by Emelia Rourke and Julia Martin, who each finished with 14 points.

Ellie Bream added six points.

The boys team improved to 4-1 with a 66-23 win over the Pioneers.

The 66 points were a season-high for the Vikings.

Waverly led 41-15 at the half.

Two Vikings finished in double-figures including junior Andrew Heffelfinger who led the way with 14.

Sophomore Cole Murray added 12 more and sophomore’s Drew Miller and Hogan Wingrove each added eight apiece.
