LINCOLN – The Lincoln Lutheran-Raymond Central Warrior girls soccer team fell one game short of qualifying for the state soccer tournament after falling to Omaha Duchesne Academy in the Class B-7 district championship game in Lincoln on May 4.
The Warriors advanced to the district championship with a pair of shutout victories over Beatrice and Seward in the Class B-6 sub-district tournament played at YMCA Spirit Park in Lincoln on April 30 and May 2.
Lincoln Lutheran-Raymond Central scored two goals in the opening half and added one more in the second in support of junior keeper Kassidy Johnson, who was spotless in goal for the Warriors.
Freshman Shanae Bergt, Junior Elayne Poppe and freshman Hannah Kile scored the goals for the home team against the Orange.
Poppe added an assist as did teammates Reagan Holle (fr.) and Alayna Bergt (jr.)
Johnson stopped four shots in goal.
The win put the Warriors into the sub-district championship against Seward on May 2.
LL-RC scored twice in the first half and added one more in the second half while notching a 3-0 win.
Holle scored two goals and Poppe added one more.
Shanae Bergt, Alayna Bergt and Poppe all added assists.
Johnson earned the goal in net for the Warriors.
The win put LL-RC into the Class B-7 district championship game against Duchesne.
The Warriors were in control the entire game until the Cardinals were able to get the equalizer with less than two minutes remaining in regulation to tie it one.
The Cardinals got one in overtime, ending the Warriors’ season in heartbreaking fashion.
Sophomore Addi Ernstmeyer scored the goal for the Warriors and was assisted by Shanae Bergt.
LL-RC ended the season with a record of 11-3.
